Teachers from Key Stage 2 and 3 worked together to design a series of six lessons to be taught in the Summer Term of Year 6 and six lessons to be taught in the Autumn Term of Year 7, following a common theme.
The three themes were focused around using investigative approaches to science with two other key elements of the science curriculum:
Thinking scientifically
Understanding the applications and implications of science/working critically with evidence/ Communicating and collaborating in science
The units were first delivered in the Summer/Autumn of 2010 and were also delivered in the Summer/Autumn of 2011.
Where students were able to study all twelve lessons, feedback indicated that they enjoyed and valued the link between primary and secondary science. However, the pattern of secondary transfer in London schools meant the numbers of children in this position was relatively (and disappointingly low).
